iamnotoneofthem asked you: I’ve got a question for you: What if, in A Study in Pink, John had taken the money to spy on Sherlock from Mycroft? Since it apparently was a test, do you think Mycroft would have tried to tear Sherlock and John apart again?Ah, this…
Mycroft continues to try to tear them apart and it appears he is succeeding in Season 2, because unlike in “Study in Pink,” John is no longer forthright about sharing with Sherlock the information that Mycroft provides during these “private family conferences.” John even attempts to lie to Sherlock regarding what Mycroft told him about Irene at the end of “Scandal.” I don’t know where this general idea comes from, that Mycroft is working in Sherlock’s best interest. On the contrary, he seems to be trying to thwart, humiliate and destroy him at every opportunity. In “Scandal,” he refused to level with Sherlock about the real reason he wants Irene’s phone (the plane code), then humiliates him for falling into Irene’s trap when the plan goes south. In “Fall” Mycroft tells John assassins surround their building, yet Mycroft, who one would think is fully capable of rounding up these assassins, does nothing about it. This seemed a total gaping hole in the plot to me. Coupled with Mycroft admitting that Sherlock’s situation is entirely his fault because he blabbed to Moriarty does NOT indicate to me that Mycroft is in any way acting in Sherlock’s best interest.
